The Ambient Assisted Living Joint Programme is implemented by the AAL Association
The AAL Association is an international not-for-profit association according to Belgium law. It was founded by 14 member organisations on 19 September 2007 in Brussels.

The members of the AAL Executive Board
are the official representatives of the AAL Association. Members of the Executive Boad are members of their national delegation in the AAL General Assembly. Members as of 2 November 2009 are:

Member organisations of the AAL General Assembly of the AAL Association
In the AAL General Assembly national funding authorities (either ministries or funding agencies) are members (info on accession to the AAL Association). Each country has one vote in the General Assembly; countries with more than one member organisation nominate one single voting person. At this moment (Sep. 09) the following 24 organisations from 22 countries are members of the AAL Association:

The European Commission, DG Information Society and Media, has a permanent quest status in the AAL General Assembly. Until its full joining in 2010, Switzerland participates in the AAL Joint Programme without being a member of the association and without profiting from European co-funding for Swiss project partners.
