30 July 2008: The DECISION No 742/2008/EC OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 9 July 2008 on the Community’s participation in a research and development programme undertaken by several Member States aimed at enhancing the quality of life of older people through the use of new information and communication technologies is published in the Official Journal L201.

14 March 2008: Consolidated text (of the EC proposal to contribute to AAL) adopted by the European Parliament

The European view on AAL (March 2006;  pdf; 850 kb): The "Europe Is Facing a Demographic Challenge - Ambient Assisted Living Offers Solutions" report highlights the view on ageing societies in Europe in general and clarifies the potential for AAL169 to offer solutions for this phenomenon.
