5th impact assessment - final report

This report presents a comprehensive evaluation of how the AAL Programme has delivered value across its three core pillars: industrial innovation, societal wellbeing, and care system transformation

It begins by outlining the programme’s structure, objectives and evolution, highlighting how collaborative, cross-border research and strong user engagement have driven relevant and market-oriented solutions. The analysis then focuses on the impact of funded projects, demonstrating how AAL has accelerated product development, supported commercialisation and ultimately strengthened Europe’s position in the growing AgeTech sector.

Crucially, the report also focuses on the real-world impact of these solutions on older adults and their networks. The findings show clear benefits in terms of independence, wellbeing and social participation, underpinned by a strong user-centred approach that ensures solutions are easy to use and useful.

The assessment also explores how AAL innovations contribute to more efficient and sustainable care systems, reducing pressure on caregivers, enabling better coordination, and supporting new models of care delivery. Beyond individual projects, the report highlights AAL’s key role in building a thriving pan-European innovation ecosystem, fostering long-term, collaborative partnerships to this day.

Finally, the report examines the key lessons and future directions from ALL, taking on board the persistent challenges such as scaling, regulation and market uptake. As such, it offers valuable insights for policymakers, funders and innovators seeking to translate promising technologies into lasting societal impact.
