Canada and the AAL programme

From overseas new opportunities and partners

The AAL programme is generating interest not just in Europe and in our partner states. Overseas, Canada, where demographic change is a social issue, but an opportunity of growth as well as in Europe, has shown an increasing interest towards the ICT for active ageing and towards our funding programme. After some confirmed interest, Canada has been accepted as a participating country in the new-born AAL Programme. The AAL Programme, in its second phase, will run until 2020 with an estimated budget of € 700 million to invest in ICT for active and healthy ageing.

So far, only EU countries and partner states could enjoy the benefit of participating to our programme. With this move the AAL Programme opens its doors to a new country and launches a message of innovative inclusion to unleash even more commercialization potential, user engagement and technology transfer. Despite the non-eligibility of this North American country for the EU funding, Canadian companies and organizations will be able to join European consortium and therefore to contribute to the improvement of know-how, quality and commercial opportunities of the AAL projects. Canadians may be joining the projects starting form the next call in 2015.
