ICT for ageing well.

A- A A+

The objective of SENIOR-TV is to develop a platform for providing formal caregiving services (i.e. biophysiological meters and parameters) and informal caregiving services (i.e. weather, NEWS, events, cognitive games and reminders) to older adults that live alone in their own homes, at low cost, focusing on the active prevention and the maintenance of relationships with friends, family, and the community. The following actions are being undertaken:

1.     Identification of the most suitable technologies to deploy services for the elderly at home using a Smart TV setting in combination with other devices such as SmartPhone and Tablets.

2.     Design of formal and informal caregiving services targeted at older adults that live at their own home. These services are being designed in close cooperation with end-users.

Validation of the services designed through 3 piloting cycles organized in Cyprus, Slovenia and Romania including the participation of 300 in total end-users.mania

The SENIOR-TV project is dealing with the empowerment of seniors to live as much as possible independent in their own homes. It aims at developing a widespread access, adaptable platform, installed on TV, STB, smartphones or tablets as main interfaces, able to provide seniors living in their own homes with a set of social and health services that may facilitate their self-care, prevent physical and cognitive deterioration, improve their access to formal and informal caregiving services, and enhance their family and community insertion.

Expected results and impact:

The project’s immediate outcome is the SENIOR-TV platform, a Smart TV based ecosystem developed to deploy services for the elderly at home. Several applications, covering both formal and informal caregiving services, will be available as open source at the end of the project. Third parties will be allowed to develop their own applications that will be distributed according to the business model that the SENIOR-TV will follow. Different marketing strategies will be thus explored in order to produce a sustainable model to facilitate the mainstreaming of SENIOR-TV across Europe after the end of the project.
