SFL

The project “StayFitLonger: an integrated platform for healthy ageing at home” aims to offer a program proposing physical and cognitive exercises for seniors. This program will be accessible through a mobile application including a virtual coach to boost adherence to the program. Thanks to their links with everyday life, the exercises proposed aim to extend the independence of seniors living at home. To validate the effects of the program, a randomised controlled trial will be conducted in Switzerland, Belgium and Canada among 128 people aged 60 and over. The physiotherapy department of the Haute Ecole de Santé Valais developed the physical exercises, the cognitive exercises are developed by the Leenaards Memory Center of the CHUV in collaboration with the Institut Universitaire de Gériatrie de Montréal. The application is developed jointly by the Institute of Information Systems of the HES-SO Valais in Sierre, by the Applied Imaging research group of HE-Arc in Neuchâtel and by MindMaze, Lausanne.

Objectives

StayFitLonger answers the need of unifying research effort to develop an integrated platform offering cognitive and physical exercises targeted to extend the independence of seniors living at home. Many solutions exist on the market but they only propose one type of exercises and/or were not scientifically validated. The cognitive exercises developed in this project will have a direct link with everyday life, in opposition to most cognitive exercises such as Sudoku or crossword. To increase adherence for the exercises a virtual coach will give users feedback and cheer them on.

Expected results and impact

As this project is built on existing components, we aim to propose a working platform with physical and cognitive exercises which is validated with a clinical study involving participants from Switzerland, Belgium and Canada. Therefore StayFitLonger (SFL) would be available in a free, gold and premium package at relatively low cost to be able to get the highest penetration rates. Assuming modest penetration rates, we should be able to have about 10 million subscribers in about 5 years after launch. We should be able to generate about 99 million euros in revenue combining various types of packages.
