Digital Ecosystems for Community Care (DECC) Workshop 2025

The AAL Programme’s ongoing series of workshops promoting digital tools and services that support active and assisted living, continues with its latest workshop in Budapest this December, focusing on the future of digital ecosystems in community care.

Digital transformation is reshaping every part of society, yet in the care of older people and community support, many promising innovations still struggle to reach everyday life and be put into practice. To tackle this challenge head-on, Multilogic Ltd., together with the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME VIK) and the Social Services of the Municipality of Újbuda (USZOSZ), is hosting a major international workshop on the future of digital ecosystems in community care.

Supported by the Hungarian National Association of Local Authorities (TÖOSZ) and the Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta (MMSZSZ), the event brings together technology developers, care providers, clinicians, municipal leaders and innovators to explore how digital tools can meaningfully support healthy, active and dignified ageing.

Over the last decade, digital smart solutions have proliferated in healthcare, but their adoption remains limited. While older adults increasingly use digital devices, developers often lack insight into the true needs of user groups. At the same time, carers, institutions and senior citizens themselves are not always sufficiently prepared to integrate digital services into daily care routines.

Building on a series of R&D projects, Multilogic, BME VIK and Semmelweis University have created an internet-based ecosystem of digital tools to promote physical and mental wellbeing. These have already been piloted in municipalities, care institutions and universities across Hungary.

The DECC workshop aims to open an international dialogue on what works, what doesn’t and how digital ecosystems can genuinely strengthen community care.

Participants will gain insight into emerging digital solutions that support healthy ageing, including:

  • Mental fitness applications with cognitive games and assessments
  • Digital cognitive screening tools, including MoCA
  • AI-based health advisory support using large language models
  • Therapy compliance tools for people living with schizophrenia
  • Digital applications for home care providers

The workshop programme features four dedicated thematic blocks covering municipal digitalisation needs, caring communities, cognitive health and mental fitness in older age, and best practices in home care, with experiences shared from across Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and other regions.

The day will be hosted in a fully bilingual format (Hungarian and English, with simultaneous interpretation) enabling rich knowledge exchange among local practitioners and international partners from previous and current AAL, Interreg and Celtic-Next projects.

Who should attend?

This workshop is ideal for:

  • Carers working in senior and community care
  • Psychologists, psychiatrists and GPs
  • Municipal senior care officers and policymakers
  • Social service providers
  • Developers and digital solution innovators

Whether you work in technology, care provision, research or policy, you will find valuable insights and new collaborations.

Benefits of attending

Participants will come away with a comprehensive understanding of how digital ecosystems are already supporting community care, gaining a clear picture of the solutions currently available and the progress made across different regions. Throughout the day, they will hear directly from carers, institutions and older adults, offering valuable insight into the real needs, expectations and challenges faced on the ground. The workshop will showcase a range of digital tools that have been tested in real-world care settings, providing practical examples of what works and why.

In addition to exploring proven approaches from both national initiatives and international projects, attendees will benefit from extensive opportunities to connect with peers from multiple disciplines, from technology developers and researchers to frontline care professionals and municipal leaders. This rich cross-sector networking is designed to spark new ideas, partnerships and collaborative pathways.

Participation is entirely free of charge, underscoring the workshop’s commitment to social value, accessibility and shared learning.
