Exploring technology and co-working for health and an active life
On 13th June 2025, the AAL Programme, together with KOHS and partners, hosted a virtual workshop on “Technology for co-working on health and active life”. The session was part of AAL’s ongoing workshop series designed to foster dialogue, collaboration and fresh ideas about how Europe can build healthier and more active societies.
With 23 participants and 11 expert speakers, the workshop brought together voices from ergonomics, occupational health, healthcare and technology research. The objective was to explore how innovative processes, interdisciplinary collaboration and digital solutions can support Europe’s transition towards sustainable and people-centred health and care systems.
The workshop was divided into four thematic blocks, framed by an introduction and closing discussion:
- Block 1: Ergonomics: Examining how human-centred design and workplace ergonomics can reduce strain and improve wellbeing.
- Block 2: Healthcare and AAL: Highlighting challenges in community healthcare and opportunities for co-working on health to support active living.
- Block 3: Technical aspects: Focusing on the role of open platforms, open-source solutions, and the importance of integrated processes and data structures.
- Block 4: Joint Cognitive Systems (JCS): Considering human-AI collaboration and integrated learning for the future of health.
Speakers shared perspectives on topics including agile development in AAL, the need for open data, management of change in health organisations and how technology can provide better outcomes for both citizens and healthcare workers alike.
Outcomes and next steps
The discussions underscored that healthcare systems across Europe are in transition, and that innovation in primary care, workforce competence and technology integration will be key to the success of this transition. The workshop highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration – building communities that connect ergonomics, occupational health, healthcare and digital research – to enable more active and healthier lives.
Supported by AAL Europe and the Federation of the European Ergonomics Societies (FEES), the event was co-organised with the Bulgarian Association for Ergonomics and Human Factors (BAEHF) and the CEEPUS Ergonomics and Human Factors Educational Network.
Part of the AAL workshop series
This workshop continues AAL’s commitment to providing spaces where experts and stakeholders can exchange ideas and co-create solutions for ageing well in the digital age.
The next AAL workshop will be led by Insight Media on “Storytelling for research and innovation”, during which delegates will learn about Insight’s 4S approach to effective engagement involving strategy, segmentation, storytelling and social media.
Free to attend, the workshop takes place online on Wednesday, 24th September 2025. Don’t miss this opportunity to strengthen your communication skills and learn how to make your project stories resonate with stakeholders.
