AAL Forum 2021 to be hosted in Trieste, Italy

We are delighted to announce that the next AAL Forum will be held in Trieste, Italy during 10-12 May 2021 in collaboration with its member Friuli Venezia Giulia Region and the Fondazione Internazionale. In the midst of the global outbreak of COVID-19, especially affecting our older populations in Europe, the AAL Programme is proud to announce its annual event to take place in the north of Italy.

The AAL Forum is the annual flagship event of the AAL Programme, which presents and shares knowledge in the field of active and healthy ageing and to be a major networking place for researchers, care professionals, companies active in the silver economy and policy experts.

The AAL Programme will join forces again with its partners from the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing and the Joint Programme Initiative More Years Better Lives. A European Week of Healthy Ageing is currently under preparation by the three partners, under which the AAL Forum will take place (more info to come soon on the programme).

The AAL Forum 2021 will take inspiration from the Decade of Healthy Ageing launched by the WHO in 2020, in order to discuss and exchange on key active & healthy ageing priorities for a collective and collaborative approach in Europe.

The Forum will touch upon some of the main topics put forward by WHO, such as:

  • How to build a platform for innovation and change;
  • Align Healthcare systems with the needs of an ageing population;
  • Intergenerational Solidarity;
  • Make the socio-economic case for impact investment into healthy ageing.

“Trieste is the perfect city to embrace the forum’s goal and target group,” according to the regional minister Alessia Rosolen: “the average age of the local population is already high and is gradually rising. At the same time it’s also a place of scientific excellence at national and international level.”

“Bringing the AAL Forum to Trieste” -said Peter Saraga, President of AAL-  “is a subtle message of hope and collaboration for the future of Europe. We have chosen Italy to host our annual Forum to learn from the current crisis, in order to better protect our older population in the future and thereby contribute to the future sustainability of our health and care systems.”

These are the aims pursued by Fit since its foundation: to promote and encourage progress, freedom, the diffusion of sciences and their peaceful applications; promote and increase the scientific and technological application activities of local university and research institutions, also by promoting relationships and collaboration with all similar institutions in Italy and in the world, in particular with emerging countries. Finally, promoting and increasing the cultural and economic relations of Trieste internationally.
