INNOVATION CONFERENCE

‘European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing’ conference

Brussels, 6 November 2012 – One year after the delivery of the Strategic Implementation Plan, the six Action Groups of the European Innovation Partnership on active and healthy ageing presented today their action plans to a wider audience. These plans aim to bring the benefits of innovation in the field of active and healthy ageing to Europe’s citizens.

The AAL Joint Programme is active in the third pillar of the Strategic Implementation Plan “Active Ageing and independent living”, especially in the following action: “Development of interoperable independent living solutions, including guidelines for business models” – extending active and independent living through open and personalised solutions supported by global standards, validated implementation of interoperable platforms and new evidence on the return of investment. This is essential for creating a market for cost-effective products and services, and to reinforce research and innovation through public-private partnerships.

Example: guidelines and standards to easily combine a variety of solutions for safety, mobility, and personal communications with family in order to sustain independence in the daily life of older persons. Mobilisation of joined-up procurement of independent living solutions based on open and standards based multi-vendor solutions.

The Conference was an opportunity for stakeholders who are already part of an Action Group to meet with different group members, collaborate and discover common interests. Stakeholders interested and involved in different areas of active and healthy ageing also took part in the conference and contributed to the discussion on how to get the most out of the action plans. Two panel discussions were dedicated to the action plans in the areas of prevention, integrated care, and active ageing and independent living.

The European Commission provided information on horizontal issues – such as regulatory framework conditions and funding opportunities – and explain the next steps for the Partnership.
