Advancing Digital Solutions in Senior Care

As Europe continues to face the growing challenge of an ageing population, technology is becoming ever more pivotal. On 12th of June 2025, Caretronic will host a one-day international workshop in Kranj, Slovenia, to explore the evolving landscape of digital solutions in senior care.

The Cartronic workshop, titled Advancing digital solutions in senior care: Best practices and future trends, will open up valuable dialogue between stakeholders across the health, care and technology sectors. Bringing together healthcare professionals, caregivers, senior representatives, policymakers, researchers and technology providers, the workshop will focus on how smart digital innovations can support ageing populations – now and into the future.

Rather than focusing on a single solution or product, the event aims to provide a comprehensive look at a variety of approaches, including AI-powered platforms, integrated digital health systems, and smart home technologies. It will examine how collaboration, practical experience and international exchange can be the three pillars that can be critical to advancing Active and Assisted Living (AAL) in Europe and beyond.

A platform for collaboration and peer learning

The workshop sets out with six key goals:

  • Understanding the landscape of smart care solutions currently available.
  • Offering comparative insights into how different technologies function across contexts.
  • Exploring the challenges and opportunities in adopting digital tools in elder care – from ethical and regulatory questions to user adaptability.
  • Facilitating peer learning and knowledge-sharing between practitioners and innovators.
  • Highlighting interactive case studies and live demonstrations to bridge theory and practice.
  • Engaging participants in discussions about the future of digital health innovation, particularly in AAL.

With 40 participants set to meet in person at Ljubljana’s NEU Residences and more delegates signed up to join online, the workshop will provide an intimate yet diverse environment for hands-on engagement and strategic dialogue.

Interactive agenda with an international outlook

The delegates will share their insights through panel discussions, breakout sessions and informal networking opportunities.

By bringing together professionals from different countries and disciplines, this important workshop will create a space where experiences can be compared, success stories shared and innovative solutions debated. International perspectives will play a central role, too, with participants encouraged to explore how cultural and systemic factors influence the uptake and impact of technology in senior care.

From smart homes to telehealth platforms, the digital landscape is already offering new ways to support people leading healthy, happy and active lives at home. But effective integration is key for these systems to continue to deliver to more people – and this requires cooperation, adaptability and shared understanding.

A step forward in AAL community engagement

As a contributor to the broader goals of the AAL community, this workshop is an important effort to enhance the quality of life for older adults through innovative, inclusive and practical digital strategies. As such, it hopes to build strong bridges between stakeholders and to accelerate the responsible deployment of technology in care settings and in the home.
