STIMULATING… RESULT ORIENTED RESEARCH

The AAL Programme has aimed to join national research activities to build projects with results that are able to reach the market in 2-3 years. The added value of such initiatives has resided in its double funding-based system (research being funded jointly by National Funding Agencies and complemented by the European Commission) with only one interlocutor: a National Contact Person. In an AAL project,  research activity is brought closer to market and to the users (and consumers) of the project solutions.

Specific aims of the programme:

  • Foster the emergence of innovative ICT-based products, services and systems for ageing well at home, in the community, and at work, thus increasing the quality of life, autonomy, participation in social life, skills and employability of older adults, and reducing the costs of health and social care;
  • Create a critical mass of research, development and innovation at EU level in technologies and services for ageing well in the information society, including the establishment of a favourable environment for participation by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
