Objectives
SOPHIA project aims to create a network, the core of which will be senior adults after retirement who would like to continue offering their skills, knowledge and services. Some of the network branches will be companies and enterprises that would require the expertise of the seniors, while individuals could benefit from their help. This network will bring in contact the senior adults with the above people and handle all kinds of possible transaction they may have, in a friendly and efficient environment. Possible transactions between the senior adults and their “clients” could be assistance to set up a small business, consultancy services, or solutions to private inquiries.
Expected results and impact
The end of active working period of every individual is a crucial point from psychological and sociological point of view. As such, the existence of ways and possibilities for a person to stay active is crucial, in order to maintain that person’s physical and mental health. The platform SOPHIA follows strategic objectives of EU and contributes to prolong the active lives of seniors who have further possibilities to contribute to society. On the other hand, people, to whom senior adult’s services are addressed, will find in SOPHIA from simple handy advises to career boosts. Since a vast variety of people can benefit from SOPHIA, a big socio-economic benefit is expected.

Objectives
The IronHand project targets frail older adults suffering from age-related loss of weakness to continue use of their arms and hands in occupation and leisure activities. As people get older, one of the functions that often declines is grip strength. The resulting reduced hand function can have a dramatic impact on the quality of life of older adults. Within the IronHand project, reduced hand function is supported through a smart glove during execution of functional tasks, not only in, but also outside of the home. In this way, elderly people are empowered to continue managing their occupation and community activities.
Expected results and impact
First of all, IronHand is expected to have assistive Impact: support of activity of daily life, enabling older adults to continue managing their occupation – at work in an office, a factory or any working environment. Secondly, a preventive impact is anticipated: maintaining or improving grip strength for preserving health and functional use of their hands when ageing or when suffering acute or chronic hand-impairing diseases during ageing. Thirdly, an impact on overall Quality of Life is expected: Marked improvement in older adult quality of life, as evaluated by 360 degree surveys (user, family and doctors).

Read moreObjectives
healthy@work wants to increase occupational health maintenance and well-being especially for older care giving professionals and office workers. The project helps to establish healthier behaviours in occupation and at home. It addresses the often-experienced gap between just knowing what would be good for your body and mind and actually starting to change your daily behaviour. The personalised adaptive workplace health promotion programme (healthy@work) is a mobile application platform and associated infrastructure that promotes healthy behaviour through small daily inputs, activities and monitoring.
Expected results and impact
The healthy@work project will apply state of the art development processes. The envisioned system consists of mobile and server based software components and will be complemented by different mobile, wearable and fixed sensor-systems. The mobile part of the system has to ensure that health-related activity data can be collected by using sensors which are integrated into smartphones (e.g. accelerometer, GPS, WLAN) or can be used or triggered by smartphones in conjunction with temporarily attached components within the building (e.g. NFC or QR-code) or on the body (wearable sensors).
End-users will be involved in Switzerland and United Kingdom through our local consortium partners CURAVIVA and Bournemouth Borough Council. End-users are involved in the requirement phase and the organization can act as a showcase enterprise that will implement a growing healthy@work programme during the different field trial iterations.

Objectives
Project partners and end-users co-design a reciprocal exchange-service for an engaged senior life. The service addresses a market opportunity and releases an unexploited societal potential for solving tasks predominantly under the public sector realm. Behind the need and opportunity are societal macro trends as well as documented positive effects of seniors’ prolonged professional activity and voluntary work. Give&Take empowers seniors, by improving occupational lifestyle through a reciprocal exchange-service to maintain societal engagement as a key to mental, social and physical fitness.
Expected results and impact
The project will have important impact for European societies in the area of welfare and quality of life for senior citizens. Through social and digital media innovation the Give&Take project will 1) release a currently unexploited societal potential for tasks currently under the public sector realm, 2) increase empowerment of independent living of seniors and 3) strengthen quality of life of seniors through occupation and social engagement as a key to mental, social and physical fitness – and by this further (indirect) effects on welfare state by delaying the need for intensive public care.

Objectives
Over 5% of the world’s population suffer from a disabling hearing loss. Profoundly deaf people can be helped with a cochlear implant, and for milder losses a bone conduction implant can bring relief. These devices are rather complex containing many advanced features, i.e. connectivity solutions. This project aims at developing a telehealth platform empowering senior users in their daily life. It provides a communication channel with clinicians and manufacturers offering counselling and troubleshooting information, training and hearing assessment, and device use and fitting services.
Expected results and impact
Deafness is very disabling causing social isolation and is possible linked to accelerated cognitive decline. Hearing implants are not always available, as the devices are expensive and the after care is intensive requiring regular travel to the clinic, audiological centre or the speech therapist. The proposed telehealth system intends to increase the quality of the hearing therapy (e.g. less down time, better information and training, optimal hearing in everyday environment), reduce the cost of ownership (e.g. less need for specialist consultations) and empower the hearing implant recipient.

Objectives
The project ANIMATE born with the aim of using new technologies to address one of the main problems of generational relay: the loss of knowledge by a lack of adequate transmission of experience among the older generations and younger generations. ANIMATE also seeks to solve a problem that affects people of a certain age: the feeling of not being useful, due to be jobless or have a job that does not conform to their current abilities and interests, leads to absence of ambition and a sedentary lifestyle. Moreover ANIMATE aims to help the development of the manufacturing sector across Europe.
Expected results and impact
ANIMATE is designed to maximise the recuperative and preventive effects of occupation on health and well-being. The solution highlights the important role of qualified older adults in the labour market and targets the preservation of their extended knowledge. The ANIMATE project aims to create a European wide community of intergenerational knowledge transfer which will bring together older and younger generations across the continent for the exchange of expertise and know-how.

Objectives
The objectives of the PIA project are to:
- Support older adults to manage Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL) to prolong independent living at home by using smart devices to support location- or object-relevant content delivery, e.g., video clips.
- Support formal and informal carers to produce, share and distribute care experience and knowledge content through social network and rich interactions.
- Provide personalised and intuitive user interfaces to secure accessibility for all, templates and tools to facilitate video clip production and deployment for carers, and guidelines and supporting materials for PIA system deployment.
Expected results and impact
The quality of the primary end-users everyday life will be improved through a communications and support tool designed to help them cope with daily activities with increased independence, while it is anticipated that the secondary end-users (carers) will benefit from stress reduction rendered by this support tool. A tool for carer stress analysis will be developed and used in order to measure this. The PIA system will be technology-tested in laboratory homes and trialled in real home environments. A subsequent commercial minimum viable product and associated support service will be future developed to enter the assistive technology market no later than 6 months after the project end.

Objectives
The increasing population ageing index makes customised care necessary to maintain the quality of life of older adults at home. As modern societies recognise their commitment to taking care of elderly citizens, new and innovative approaches are necessary. New models of care must be deployed, in which informal carers play a crucial role as one of the most important sources of care for older adults. The role of the main caregiver is often taken by the spouse or a close relative, which may often lead to stress, over-work, depression, and even being physically hit or struck. In addition, they might be not adequately prepared for some situations, causing a great sense of insecurity. Thus, support and distress relief in caregivers should be a key issue in the home-care process of these older adults
Expected results and impact
The iCarer project will develop a personalised and adaptive platform to offer informal carers support by means of monitoring activities of daily care, as well as their psychological state, and providing a learning framework to help them improve the care provided.
Registered data will be analysed and fed into the platform in order to model the Activities of Daily Care based on behavioural patterns. With this information, and if the informal caregiver is absent at the time, the platform will act as a “virtual carer”, giving support to the older adult and providing information to the carer in case a daily activity is done incorrectly.

Objectives
Frailty syndrome confers disability for activities of daily living (ADL disability) and is an important cause of loss of autonomy. The project idea is to use the proven advantages of elderly fitness to develop a personalised self-care solution based on self-check of health conditions and elderly fitness at home. The solution will use an autonomous fitness system targeting not frailty or pre-frailty elder people living independently at home. The use of this solution will help the elderly to stay independently at home and to deal autonomously with the activities of daily living by allowing them to prevent frailty.
Expected results and impact
The new service presented in ELF@Home is based on four functional innovations: – Elderly people do fitness at home at any time independently where they live. – Although the exercising is done without a human direct supervision, the system is able to monitor exercise execution and give feedback to the user about the correct execution. – The fitness program is personalised according to the user profile and the physical activity level without direct human intervention. – The impact of the fitness program is evaluated by using medical sensors in order to adjust the program.
